ESTATE PLANNING

Would you be the future savior for dogs abandoned, starving and tortured in the Everglades region of Florida? Say “yes” by making a bequest or other planned gift to Everglades Angels Dog Rescue.

Planned giving allows you to support EADR's mission of "Saving the abandoned dogs of the Everglades" for years to come while fulfilling your own financial goals and objectives. Planned gifts include bequests made through a will as well as gifts of life insurance, charitable lead trusts, or retirement plans. These gifts can be made in cash, stocks, bonds, personal property, life insurance, and real estate.

GIFT PLANNING

Determining the right gift is just as important as making the gift. There are many options in your estate planning from which you can choose. In general, one of the simplest methods to leave a lasting legacy to EADR is the bequest. Bequests are an instrument of a contributor's will which sets aside a sum of money, portion of the estate or portion of the estate's residuary for distribution to a charitable organization such as EADR. The bequest can be small or large. It can be unrestricted, or it can be restricted for use to a specific program of interest.

Wills and Living Trusts

By including EADR in your will or living trust, you can make an important and lasting gift for the animals while meeting your financial and estate planning goals. A bequest to EADR can take many forms, and because a bequest qualifies for the estate tax charitable deduction, it may reduce your taxable estate.

Common types of bequests:

General: “I give to Everglades Angels Dog Rescue, Inc., a corporation organized and existing under the Florida Nonprofit Corporation Law, headquartered at Everglades Angels Dog Rescue, 2637 E Atlantic Blvd, Unit 269, Pompano Beach, Florida 33062, the sum of ________ dollars (or specific piece of property) to be used as the board of directors directs.”

Bequest of a percentage: “I give and bequeath ________ percent (name specific percentage) of my estate to Everglades Angels Dog Rescue, a corporation organized and existing under the Florida Nonprofit Corporation Law, headquartered at Everglades Angels Dog Rescue, 2637 E Atlantic Blvd, Unit 269, Pompano Beach, Florida 33062.”

Bequest of residue: This is a provision in a will leaving the remainder of one’s estate to an organization after all other bequests are fulfilled. “The rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, whatever situation, I give and bequeath to Everglades Angels Dog Rescue, 2637 E Atlantic Blvd, Unit 269, Pompano Beach, Florida 33062.”

Contingent bequest: This leaves a bequest to EADR if any of the other beneficiaries are unable to receive their bequests because of death or other circumstances. Generally, this reads, “should (name of person) predecease me, the portion of my estate going to ___________ (this person) I give and bequeath to Everglades Angels Dog Rescue, 2637 E Atlantic Blvd, Unit 269, Pompano Beach, Florida 33062, a corporation organized and existing under the Florida Nonprofit Corporation Law, headquartered at Everglades Angels Dog Rescue, 2637 E Atlantic Blvd, Unit 269, Pompano Beach, Florida 33062.”

To leave a gift from a Living Trust, write: "I direct my trustee to distribute from the principal of my trust estate to Everglades Angels Dog Rescue, 2637 E Atlantic Blvd, Unit 269, Pompano Beach, Florida 33062, a corporation organized and existing under the Florida Nonprofit Corporation Law, headquartered at Everglades Angels Dog Rescue, 2637 E Atlantic Blvd, Unit 269, Pompano Beach, Florida 33062, the sum of ________ dollars (or, if stock, land or other property, please describe)."

Retirement Plan Assets

Your IRA, 401(k), 403(b) or other qualified retirement plan may be heavily taxed if left to anyone other than a legally recognized spouse. By naming EADR as a beneficiary of all or a portion of a retirement plan, you avoid both the estate tax and income tax due on these tax-deferred plans if you distributed to your heirs.

Insurance

If you have a life insurance policy you no longer need, you may consider transferring ownership to EADR. You may also purchase a new policy, and later name EADR as the owner and beneficiary. Either gift generates a charitable income tax deduction. The payment of premiums on behalf of EADR will also enable you to claim income tax charitable deductions.

A little planning today can ensure the thoughtful disbursement of your assets and can assure you, your heirs (including pets) and charitable interests have a more secure future.

A sound estate plan, which includes a planned giving provision, can provide income as well as tax advantages. EADR has provided general information about planned giving instruments below and you should always consult your attorney or estate planner on all such matters.

Sponsor A Dog

If you would like to sponsor a dog you can set up recurring weekly, monthly or annual payments of any amount you choose, through PayPal. Your sponsorship will continue until you decide to cancel.

This is a co-sponsorship whereby some dogs are sponsored by more than one person and some may not have a sponsor at all. $20 no longer covers the monthly food costs for one dog, so during difficult economic times, we are happy that each dog may have more than one sponsor.

You can select the amount you would like to donate and also add the name of the dog you have chosen from our adoption page. Thank you!

Please make sure to add the dog's name you wish to sponsor from the "Available Dog" page. Once you click the "Donate" button, you can add the Dog's name under the "Add special instructions to the seller" section.
